Outspoken senator Lidia Thorpe says she was provoked into an expletive-laden altercation that was filmed outside a Melbourne club.
The footage was captured on the footpath outside Maxineâs Gentlemenâs Club in Brunswick at 3am on Sunday.
Senator Thorpe was reportedly leaving a friendâs 50th birthday celebration when the stoush took place.
âYou know what I say, to you, you know what I say to you and you âŚâ she said to a group of people outside the club, in the footage aired by Seven News.
â⌠small penis, small penis.â
One of the men replied, âYouâre a racist dogâ.
Senator Thorpe was pulled away from the group by a companion, but she continued: âAll Iâve got to say to the black brothers there and anyone that weâre fightingâ.
âAny black man that stands with the fââ white little câ like that, youse can all get fââ too.â
Before Senator Thorpe left the club, she appeared to pull out her mobile phone and start recording the men still lingering on the footpath.
âYou, you are marked,â she said.
Senator Thorpe issued a statement on Sunday night saying she had been provoked and harassed.
âItâs sad people are using whatever they can to drag me down when weâre trying to discuss important issues in this country,â the statement read.
In March, Senator Thorpe was pulled to the ground by police after she attempted to intervene in a protest organised by anti-transgender activist Kellie-Jay Keen-Minsull (aka Posie Parker) outside Parliament House in Canberra.
